Free Naloxone (Narcan nasal) Opportunity

The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH), in collaboration with the Iowa State Sheriffs' and Deputies' Association (ISSDA) and the Iowa Police Chiefs Association (IPCA), are working to resolve the issue of opioid misuse in Iowa, including preventing the deaths of Iowans struggling with an opioid use disorder.

As part of our ongoing Opioid Initiatives, IDPH is teaming up with ISSDA and IPCA to help prevent fatal overdoses by offering a free naloxone (Narcan nasal) kit to every interested law enforcement officer in the state. Quite often our law enforcement personnel are the first to arrive to a scene when a suspected overdose has occurred. Having the ability to administer naloxone without delay could mean the difference between life and death for a person experiencing an overdose.

If your law enforcement agency would like to participate in this opportunity, please complete the attached forms and email them to RaChel Greenwood at [email protected] or 515-281-5444. IDPH will accept one request per law enforcement agency that should include all officers of that agency. The deadline to submit a request is April, 6 2020.
